Handmade and a Little Zen

I hope I'm not biting off more than I can chew, BUT...I've really been inspired to go back to the old days (my old days) and make some of my Christmas gifts this year. I LOVE handmade myself and would rather have a gift (any gift) crafted out of time, love and thought than anything store-bought.

My most treasured Christmas ornaments are over 20 years old: A star of cinnamon sticks wired together by a 7 year-old, a popsicle stick Snowman that's at least 25 years old among others. These handmade treasures always get a prominent spot on the tree. I'll take a few pictures after I get all the decorations out and post them here.

"Indian Sari", drawn and colored in ink. This one is for a particular family member that is almost as color crazy as I am.

This year I made a few ink drawings shown below. These are ZIA , Zentangle Inspired Art. Zentangle is a meditative form of art that drawing that incorporates repetitive lines in ink to create patterns. I was introduced to it a couple of years ago and it has become my go-to way to chill. The only (minimum) supplies it requires are a piece of paper and some Micron ink pens. It's totally portable, so you can do it almost anywhere.

"Green Thing". Also done in ink with some subtle use of metallic green that adds a little punch.

I'm participating in "Flood the Streets with Art", a worldwide project that will give away all kinds of art on what is known in the US as Black Friday, the day after our holiday Thanksgiving. To learn more about this project, read my previous post here. The piece below will be one of my contributions to that project. If you're reading this and live in the Kansas City area, you will be able to find this at Zona Rosa

"Dangles" 5x7, ink. Find it at Zona Rosa, and it's yours!
